President’s Message

From: Nancy Smith

President HFMA – Michigan Great Lakes Chapter

Greetings All!

On behalf of the board members, I want to welcome everyone to the Michigan Great Lakes chapter of HFMA.  If you are new to our chapter, welcome.  We are glad you have chosen to be a part of our organization.  If you are a returning member, thank you.  We value your membership, and as a returning member, you may have noticed that your chapter affiliation was officially updated to the Michigan Great Lakes Chapter over the summer.  This is just one of the many actions necessary as we work together to become One chapter throughout the great state of Michigan!

While transitioning to a new board is not new, merging the three Michigan chapters into one is and doing it during a pandemic is unprecedented. As noted in our meet and greet session held virtually in May, which was recorded and can be found here, we were not able to attend HFMA’s Annual Leadership Training Conference. Instead we have been meeting over the summer as a board to come together, to get to know one another and to plan our chapter year. Due to the current state of COVID, we anticipate all of our events will be held virtually and you should have received invites to the following upcoming scheduled events already:

  • Maximizing Efficiency and Effectiveness Using Microsoft Teams (2 part series), 9/22/20, 5-6 PM and 10/7/20, 5-6 PM
  • MI Great Lakes Chapter – Fall Reimbursement Update 9/24/20, 1-4 PM
  • The Rapidly Evolving Healthcare Landscape: Industry Updates and Trends (Virtual Conference), 10/20/20, 9-11 AM

We hope you consider joining us for one or more of the upcoming events!

In addition, we will be launching a new chapter web-site, but in the interim, please keep track of events and chapter happenings on our web-site at, as we have many more opportunities for connections and education coming your way.  And speaking of opportunities, we are always looking for members to become more involved with the chapter to help in a variety of areas. We want your input! If this is something that you have been considering, I would encourage you to connect with me or someone else on the board.  You can find our contact information on our web-site.

Stay safe, sane and healthy in these trying times.

Nancy L. Smith

President, Michigan Great Lakes HFMA
